WHAT IS ROSACEA


  • This is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that symmetrically affects the face
  • Causes tiny pimples and red lines
  • Untreated can cause bulbous red nose (Rhinophyma)

AGE ONSET & INCIDENCE


  • More common in women than men
  • Average age of onset - 3rd - 6th decade
  • Can occur earlier in men - often more severe

CLINICAL FEATURES OF ROSACEA


  • Facial flushing
  • Non-transient erythema
  • A telangiectasia background
  • Episodes of inflammation - can cause papules, pustules & nodules
  • Non comedones (differential diagnosis from acne)

  • 50% of people will have ocular involvement

  • Blurred vision
