What is Seborrhoeic dermatitis
- Redness & scaling (greasy) in region where sebaceous glands are most active
- More common in males
- Prevalence

- Increased incidence in HIV + population & Parkinson's disease
- Inflammatory reaction related to
proliferation of the yeast Malassezia furfur (in sebum)
- Tendency to reoccur
Site of predilection
- scalp, forehead, face, chest, armpits, under the breasts,
groins
- Mild cases have dandruff and patches of flaky skin on the face
- If the condition becomes worse a more
extensive rash can occur
- Palpable papular rash or round or oval patches of red, scaly, greasy skin
- Yellow-brown
crusts may form
- The rash may become itchy
Help for Seborrhoeic Dermatitis
- Antifungal shampoo 2-3 times a week to hairy areas
- Antifungal cream once or twice daily
